DRV: Greece Among Top Three Destinations Chosen by Germans for Holidays in 2025

Norbert Fiebig, president of DRV, stated during the ITB Berlin travel exhibition that holidays are a priority for Germans, and they are booking their summer vacations earlier than ever before. Early booking has replaced last-minute reservations as the new trend.

For summer 2025, Germans are mostly opting for Mediterranean beaches, and the highest growth in bookings is seen in Eastern Mediterranean countries. Greece is one of the top three most popular destinations for German travelers, alongside Turkey and Spain. The demand for Greek holidays continues to grow, with the country being a key favorite among Germans.

Greece remains a leading destination for beach holidays, particularly for families, and its position as a top spot is strengthened by its beautiful islands, rich culture, and Mediterranean appeal. Additionally, Greece is benefiting from the trend toward more affordable Mediterranean destinations, as many travelers look for better value in these financially challenging times.

For the summer season (May–October 2025), the overall demand for holidays has risen by 12%, and Greece is seeing a significant share of this increase. It ranks third in the list of the most popular holiday destinations for Germans, after Turkey and Spain, reflecting its enduring popularity.

At the end of January 2025, bookings in Germany show a positive trend across different periods. For the winter season 2024/25 (November 2024–April 2025), sales have increased by 10%, with a slight rise in the number of travelers by 1% compared to the previous year. For the upcoming summer season 2025 (May–October 2025), bookings are up by 12%, with a 6% growth in travelers. Overall, the tourism year 2024/25 (November 2024–October 2025) is seeing a 11% increase in sales and a 4% rise in the number of travelers compared to the previous year.
